Especially when the mountain opens early and there is lots of powder snow built up from days of no traffic. Opening day is an annual tradition that goes back to the early days of Whistler resort. Skiers and snowboarders line up early for opening day to be the first people up the lift to enjoy all of the untracked powder snow. During 2012 Whistler mountain is going to open first on the 17th, the Blackcomb mountain at a later date. Whistler Blackcomb ski and snowboard resort has a very long season that attracts thousands of visitors each year. The skiing and snowboarding is very good with early uploading and memorable apres ski relaxation in the village.

Photo by: Matt Murray / www.thewhistlernews.com on April 2, 2009 Opening day is always an adventure in Whistler BC, Canada. The anticipation builds during the shoulder seasons when Mountain Biking ends and the Winter sports have yet to begin due to a lack of snow. Once the early Winter season arrives, skiing and snowboarding is available in the upper elevations of Whistler Blackcomb resort. The snow accumulates at the upper elevations due to the colder temperature.

It must be something about the crisp mountain air and the speed of gliding on snow that produces the passionate big mountain skier and snowboarder type that is found in Whistler resort. It is a lifestyle choice to forget about the big city and go up the slopes in Whistler during the Winter season.
